Stan Swamy dies in custody awaiting medical bail; Bombay HC expresses shock
Jesuit priest Stan Swamy, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, died on Monday while waiting for an interim bail on medical grounds. Dr Ian D’souza, director of the Mumbai-based Holy Family Hospital, the private facility where Swamy was undergoing treatment, and the tribal rights activist’s lawyer Mihir Desai informed a bench of the Bombay High Court of his death following cardiac arrest.
