Mining major Vedanta, which has challenged the Tamil Nadu government’s order to permanently shut down its Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin, today opposed in the National Green Tribunal a plea by the MDMK general secretary Vaiko to be impleaded in the case. The Madras High Court today directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide counselling within 24 hours to a 11-year-old hearing impaired girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by 17 men here.
